The year 2024 should be a good year for DGK; a year which should keep the band relatively busy and 'out there'. I would like to think so but time will tell. A development that has been in the pipeline for several years should take a bold step forwards in 2024; namely to include a lot more vintage library music from the so called 'golden age' circa 65/66 to 79 - a period which had its own flavour, shall we say. No one can doubt the quality of the music that was created by library music publishers such as KPM and their often anonymous composers. No matter what age you are, it should be possible to appreciate the music even without its nostalgic connections; so DGK hopes to transport you back to a period, perhaps even before you were born - time travel if you will, to get a sense of that time. DGK is already in the business of delivering retro sounds - Swing is a 30's/40's thing for example. Well, it's about the old and also the new; and DGK strives to strike a balance over time.
So you can expect DGK to include said library tracks into its performances from 2024 onwards. However, the difference is that support tracks may be used to augment the sound: covering instruments that are not currently covered by the lineup: bowed strings in particular. The arrangements have been worked on; as have the support tracks and we hope to try it all out later in the year.
Another development: as well as running DGK professional rehearsals, the hope is to start running 'training' band rehearsals too; for players that are not at the pro level and/or not looking to get out there doing it for wonga. Here's to 2024!
