James Steele

Contemporary and versatile Glasgow based saxophonist has played with the likes of Joe Herzberg (Groove Armada), Mike Stern, Stewart Brock (Prides), Ross Leighton (Fatherson), Pat Kane (Hue and Cry) and Jacqui Dankworth (to name but a few)

Originally from Stafford, James has spent time honing his craft by studying and performing throughout the UK. He studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and graduated from the BMus Jazz programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2016, having studied under famous Scottish saxophonist, Tommy Smith. At the conservatoire, James attended masterclasses with world-renowned musicians and was featured on BBC Scotland’s jazz house radio show each year, having had his own composition, ‘Happy’ played for the show in 2014.

This wealth of experience has led James to become one of the most in demand saxophonists on the Scottish scene, renowned for his diverse jazzy and rocky playing style.

Whether it is a solo drinks reception for some light and refreshing background Jazz or a large Jazz ensemble for the most demanding of events, rest assured that James can provide it all, whatever the occasion.
